The International Order of the Blue Gavel

Who are we and what do we do, this is asked many times and in many different situations. We are an International Organization that has members in many parts of the world. In order to join this fellowship you must be a past commodore from a recognized yacht club.
We endeavor to preserve the traditions, customs and ethics of yachting so that they will be there in years to come. We strive to become the keepers of the flame.
Meetings are held locally, regionally, and internationally in the true spirit of camaraderie enhanced by our common bond of having been a Commodore. Feel free to contact a member and attend one of our meetings.
What do our missions include? We have Yacht Club officer training and management, pollution identification and detoxification action. We lobby government marine legislation, support the National Boating Federation, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, and sponsorship of the U.S. Junior Sailing, and issues that involve the boating communities.
Our Humanitarian Foundation is a non-profit tax emempt corporation. This Foundation represents a very important arm of our service to the community. The foundation supports youth sailing, safe boating, special handicap events, and other educational programs which are in accordance with the organization's stated purposes as recommended by the general membership. Requests for grant funding are submitted for local causes by the respective District or Chapter.
